The Brilliant Blatant Business Model

There have been many different wellness products through my kitchen and all of them seem to have something that is incredibly special. Before I precede let me just say that the handful that I tried, I did research on the products and only used the products that appeared to be better than something I could buy at the grocery store.

There is not one that I found to be head and shoulders above the rest. I will say that personally I prefer liquid products compared to products that come in pill form, but other than that, most of these products are great. If you are part of one of these wellness businesses that preaches about why there product is soooo much better than Sussies, Billies, Freds, Johnnys, and Tinas then you are probably reading this part and saying “ Yeah ok there buddy, you clearly haven’t tried my product and have no idea what you are talking about!”

So what is it that makes all these amazing testimonials about incredible weight loss possible? How is it that that Subway guy lost all that weight eating huge subs? And most of all, why is it that there is a huge number of people who try these types of products and fail?

It Is Called “The System”

“The System” is this beautiful tool that companies use to make it streamlined for people. Losing weight for the people who were successful with the weight loss program were successful because of why? Because they followed a system! What would have happened if they just stopped eating all the horrible food they were currently eating and started eating a healthy diet without the MLM business and all of its “amazing” products? Well, for over weight people, they would probably loose weight.

How about all the people who have had some sort of healing from wellness products? Do not underestimate the power of belief. Not to discredit any product on the market out there, but there is something to be said for believing in something so strongly that the outcome is greater because of ones strong belief in a product or system. Same thing with believing in yourself…. If you have really low self-esteem then your productivity in life is more than likely very low compared to if you were very focused, goal oriented and driven to be successful in something. “The System” is put in place for a few reasons.

I may not talk about all of them, but I will give you an idea of why it is there. It is there for the sole purpose of keeping people on a time line or program or a checkpoint system so that you follow the “plan”. This creates more money for the company, gives you the results you are looking for and most importantly keeps you thinking the way you should be so that you are not playing with ideas that might cause you to quit the system.

In Seth Godins’ book “ The Dip” he talks about quitting things that are dead-ends in your life and focusing all your energy on the career, project, goal, or whatever it is that you want to pursue with all your effort. Instead of doing many things so so, he suggests doing not so many things very well.

This is very close to obvious, but it is wonderful to hear someone just spell it out. It also helps many people because it is hard to quit something right in the beginning if you realize that you are not going to, or are not able to, give an endeavor a 100% effort. Why start something if you are not going to be successful? Instead, take that energy and pour it into something that you really do want to be successful in.

Which Online Business?

Recently I was introduced to a new online business that has the potential of being very lucrative. The compensation plan seemed solid, the product seems to be a success and obviously the industry is conducive to making a lot of money if you know how to market the product.

There is always plenty of online businesses that have the capability for many people to make money with, but there are not that many that have great leadership, people who know how to market and help others market, a flawless system and not to mention a truly solid company that is not going to disappear in a few years if not sooner. Then there is that little devil known as market saturation... but that is something for another day.

So what did I do? I said thank you for the opportunity. I am happy with the company I am with and there is nothing more to do about it. In the book I am currently writing, there is a chapter called "Ode To The Puddle Jumpers".

The chapter talks about all those people out there that go from one home based business to another feverishly trying to make a quick buck when what they should have done in the first place is located the business that they could get excited about and stick with it until they found himself/herself successful.

There is always going to be opportunities that are good, great, amazing and even phenomenal. It is up to each person to decide whether they should stick with what they are doing or drop it and pick something else up. However, doing that constantly will only result in puddle jumper syndrome.

I try and add a helpful link to every post, so this time I have chosen www.blogpatrol.com for those people who want to optimize their blogs and get more traffic. This site gives you a great traffic report system. Check it out and see if it can help you.

Transfering Enthusiasm

There is so much to be said for being a great salesperson. One of the biggest problems that people have when they are trying to sell something to someone or sell someone on a business is the simple fact that he/she lacks the enthusiasm!

Who Sells More, the person who is excited about what they are selling to the point that they can't stop smiling while they are talking about it? Or is it the person who just wants to make a sale so they get money and doesn't care about the product, the person they are trying to sell it to or anything else?

You guessed it! It is the person who is all fired up about selling whatever it is that they are selling. I am directly relating this to being enthusiastic about a home business. If you rae presented with a home based business that you cannot get all excited about and really want to tell people about then you will more than likely not do well because of your personal lack of interest... despite the spicy compensation plan that makes your mouth water.

Seth Godin (Read his works)

One of the best authors and entrepreneurs to listen to is Seth Godin. His ideas and philosophies are very easy to follow and so true. It is like an "ah ha" moment the entire time you read his writings.

"If you buy my product but don't read the instructions, that's not your fault, it's mine.If you read a blog post and misinterpret what I said, that's my choice, not your error. If you attend my presentation and you're bored, that's my failure. If you are a student in my class and you don't learn what I'm teaching, I've let you down.

It's really easy to insist that people read the friggin manual. It's really easy to blame the user/student/prospect/customer for not trying hard, for being too stupid to get it or for not caring enough to pay attention. Sometimes (often) that might even be a valid complaint. But it's not helpful."

That is a little taste of part of a blog post that he wrote. I encourage everyone to go to the bottom of my blog and find his blog links and fully endulge yourself in his writings. He has written books such as "The Purple Cow, Permission Marketing, The Dip" and others that are to your benefit to read if you are at all serious about understanding the business advantages.

Seth Godin's writing puts you in check, throws the truth right in your face, opens your eyes, helps you see what is really going on, gives you the reality check you need to move forward and at the same time is enjoyable to read. While searching for answers to your most important "getting the edge" type questions, make sure you have a few of his ideas under your belt.

You can also just go straight to http://www.sethgodin.com/ and you will find plenty of amazing reading to last you hours... days...

Enjoy!

Online Data Entry (pssst. there is no $12,684.99 per month data entry online job)

Everyone always wants something.

That is the case with the Internet business world in regards to anything that has the words “home” and “online” in it. I was just doing some work online and I stumbled across one of these “data entry” jobs that you can do from your own home computer in your free time and make $8,354.59 per month! Shut the front door, are you serious!

I tell you I read the entire website looking for the flaw. I was clicking all over it and I even sent the originators an email to find out more. I almost signed up because I wanted to know everything about it when it occurred to me that I already do! I knew the second I stumbled on the page. It is so very obvious these days.

Red Flag #1
When you come across a site that offers huge money for little effort, it is a scam all day long, up and down, sideways, and even diagonal. The highlighted sentences, the bold font everywhere while at the same time the whole site looks like it was made on Microsoft Word!

Red Flag #2
The site gave a list of the services offered. The kicker is that the site said it would give you a list of companies that you could choose from to do some data entry for… What? So this site is a middleman, but it is a scam anyway so it doesn’t matter. On top of that there was a little timer at the bottom of the page and it said, “If you join in the next 93.4 seconds it will only cost you $49.95!”

Hint of Truth
Think about what Googles’ website looks like. How about Careerbuilder.coms’ website? How about Yahoo.com? My point is that none of these sites look like they were created in about an hour.

All these websites that are created from some sort of already made template and all that needs to be done is words inserted here and there is probably not a website you want to buy anything from. Unless of course you know it is a scam and all you want to do is see how they are scamming people.

If you are itching your leg in anxious ambition to get your credit card number filled in before time runs out, you may as well send that number to me so that I can some something good with it instead of you wasting money on a hopeless daydream.

Yes it is a very wonderful daydream to think that we all could just sit at home and make piles of money. It is great to think that every once in a while you can get up off the couch, use the bathroom, scratch your dogs back and oh yeah…. Do a little data entry to pay all your bills in an hour and then go back to the couch. What a wonderful thought uh?

If there were a data entry type home based business that you really could make $9,382.38 per month don’t you think it would have already been on the news, every newspaper in the world, posted on buses everywhere, and on a sticky note on the back of your hand? Something that easy and lucrative would be the largest business in the world with ease.

What started me on the tangent specifically about this type of online hoax is that when I went to search for the internet guru squad had to say about it, I found a great blog that a very nice individual had written about why these data entry positions are scams. I was happy that the guy gave some good pointers and great information on these scams.

When I got towards the end of what he was saying, he started talking about how he was actually a “full-time” data entry guy! I was a tad confused to say the least. He said it is a hard thing to figure out, but once you do it is profitable! I was scratching my head thinking, “What in the…. This guy just did a full circle from the beginning of his blog. First he is saying how it is a huge scam, now he is saying how he is a full-time scammer?”

So I read on to the end through where he talks about his wonderful worry free life and how his wife can do whatever she wants to now and how his dog has a personal driver now and his kids have their own caddies. In closing to his blog, he states “it takes a bit to get to the point of making a full-time income, but if you take his advice you will be well on your way to making a full-time income from home. Just click on the link and soon enough you have everything you need to make it happen!”

What occurred to me at this point was that this whole blog was nothing more than a glorified advertisement! It was a semi-well put together ad that enticed the reader to start to trust the author and once the author gave some good information and helpful tips he turned into the salesmen and sold the person. What did he sell them?

He sold them hope! That is right… He took everything away from the idea that anyone could make money from fake data entry jobs and then gave them a glimmer of hope in the form of him being a full-time data entry guy but it was a little tricky to do.

Therefore the reader now trusts the guy and wants to figure out how to find the real deal! So what does the author do? He sure doesn’t do data entry I can tell you that, but he won’t tell you that. He is making his money on your frantic capacity to click around for hours looking for the way he is making a full-time income online. That is right, he is simply making money on advertising scams and here is how.

At the bottom of his blog/advertisement he has a link so you can “learn more”. This isn’t in all honesty a lie. You will learn a hell of a lot about every scam out there is you click enough and read enough. But what he has done is given you a link to a website that he is hosting that has many different advertisements on it so no matter how you exit that website, unless you just close your browser or type in some website, he will get credit for you going to some website.

That means that when you click on one of those advertisements on his page that he gave to you in his blog/advertisement he is in essence sending someone a lead, or a prospective sale. It is silly to think about but it is a simple thing. This is how many online people make a lot of money.

They will take a niche like the “Get Rich Quick” area and just make some little sales pitch in a way that people want more and then direct them to another page that has a bunch of advertisements that they/ you will more than likely click on.

The great lesson here is that you can create a web page or blog that has advertisements on it that are directed towards whatever you are talking about on your page. It is a great way to help other people find more relevant information and help you pay for advertising.

College Education... General education system

It is no wonder why there are not more people becoming successful from home. There is a lot of work that is involved in working your own business with virtually no staff and the world at your fingertips. It can be overwhelming.

What's more is the horrible reality of higher education. Through a few of my communication classes and business classes in college, there is no emphasis on learning how to be an entreprenuer, instead the focus is on finding a good job, learning what you want to do for an employer, get more education so you can get a better degree so you are able to get into a better company with a larger salary and better benefits.

What is the focus? It is being employed. What is wrong with that? Let me ask you a question that should answer this question.... What is wrong with indentured without the end result which is" the right of passage"? There is no end result with being employed unless you consider retiring from a job that you have to go to to survive a good end reult. How closely does being employed resemble inentured servitude? You have to come to work or else you will not get paid. You have to do your work or else you will be fired. You have to do what your boss wants you to do or else you will be let go.

Why is "being employed" something worth your time when you have the option to be "self-employed"? If you are self-employed then you make the calls, you reap the benefits and you make the difference. You could be another number for a company or you could be making an impact through your talents.

Now there is a lot to be said for gaining work experience for a time so that a person can understand how a certain business works. It is a great thing to have so many opportunities at our fingertips, however at some point in each persons journey through life they should take the reins and not rely on an employer for wages, benefits and a 401k. It is not employers who are holding us down and not letting us reach our full potential, it is ourselves that have not allowed our own departure from the rat race.

Higher education would benefit more people if the focus was more on how to become entrepreneurs, innovators, philanthropists and decision makers. The sheep herding methods that higher education offers should be remodeled.

What Is A Capture Page?

So what is this "capture page" or "squeeze page" thing that people keep talking about?

Why is it important in online business and why should I even care?

Should I use one for my business?

Is it a scam thing?

Capture/Squeeze Page Defined:

Examples:

So as you can see, the idea behind these capture pages is to entice the person who is on the page to take some sort of action. Hopefully if the capture page is doing its job, the person will leave their information.

With many capture pages or squeeze pages the marketer or advertiser will ask the person to leave their information so that they can learn more about the opportunity or whatever it is that the squeeze page is promoting.

The squeeze page is designed to give just enough information so that the person viewing it wants to learn more or wants to get involved. The "call to action" on these pages is usually a pretty strong statement and is becoming more and more outlandish... primarily in the home/online business world where people say things like "$5,000 your first 16 days Guaranteed!". This is almost always a lie, but it gets your attention... at least until you have seen it a handful of times, at which point when you see one of these horrible squeeze pages you automatically tune it out.

The phrase "The money is in the list" is something most people hear after they have wasted tons of money on leads that have been sold to 13 different MLM hopefuls that are either about to quit the business or learn their lesson and start generating their own leads.

There is a lot of money in a good list that is for sure. The hurdle there is that the method in which you create the list is what determines whether or not the list is truly a good one for you. Find out how to target your audience and then you will have found out how to make your business successful.

Introduction of my book

"Nobody who bought a drill actually wanted a drill. They wanted a hole. Therefore, if you want to sell drills, you should advertise information about making holes - NOT information about drills!" -Perry Marshall

"There's what happened to you in your life,
and then there's what you decided it meant" -Mandy Evens

Accounts of a young twenty-year-old kid searching for the multi-million dollar prize in multi-level marketing with a book, credit card obesity, a vast knowledge of what does not work, a bit of success experience in the online business world, and a great deal of eagerness to help other people steer clear of the many foibles that can easily be avoided. Robert Kiyosaki and Donald Trump can teach you how to build wealth, Seth Godin can teach you how to market, John Assaraf can teach you how to change the way you think to be more successful, everyone in “The Secret” will help you become more happy.

I am here to tell you a story, but more importantly to shed light on many ideas that are important to figuring out this easy access world of business connecting people through the web. I’ve learned more about marketing, advertising and running a business online than everything I learned in all the semesters of college that I have pieced together.

Ah yes… I am generation X. Let me paint it for you: When I was in middle school, home computers were just starting to get the internet, I was designing computer game levels for computer games with my buddies, I was the only one in my house that new how to program the computer and keep it purring, instant messaging over the internet became popular and cell phones were starting to get smaller to the point that it was not longer very awkward to shove them into your pocket and walk around, and at about this point in time everything was coming back into style (punk, prep, jock, emo, hip hop, pretty boy, goth and so on) Naturally, I feel that my computers are simply an extension of who I am, they are almost like eating breakfast in the morning… I couldn’t imagine life without them. On the other hand, I wouldn’t mind getting lost in the wilderness just for the adventure, but you get the idea… computers are very much a part of how the world operates… clearly.

Everything that I have said in this book is great for anyone interested to read, but I am mainly talking to all the average people who would be deliriously happy to make a few hundred dollars more per month. I am talking to all those average people who are more than willing to spend the entry fee to get into come business only to find out and realize that there is so much more involved that giving it a “part-time” effort simply will do no good. There is a lot of great information in the pages to come, but for the most part sit back relax and laugh at all the great mistakes I have made so that you don’t have to.

There are a few things that I would like you to know right off the bat. First and foremost, one of the main reasons I wrote this book was not because I became wildly successful in network/multi-level marketing. I have experienced many ups and downs in the field to document it for you so that if you are interested in getting into something that you have no experience in, you may have a more solid ground from which to build from. If you have already been involved in multi-level marketing/network marketing, then I am sure that you will find great ideas or helpful tidbits here and there, but if nothing else hopefully you enjoy some of the stories.

I can’t tell you what is the best opportunity out there for you, but I can tell you what I have experienced and what I know to be of substantial importance. I can only share with you what I have done and how it worked. If you are looking for some secret formula or magic technique for sponsoring more people… I would recommend that you work about 10-20 more hours per week at what you are doing currently, if you get paid hourly, because that is about how much money you will end up losing if you start buying up all the silly e-books and fruitless advertising services that are out there. The point there is that you really have to separate the good and the bad. There are right ways to advertise and there are even more wrong ways.

For instance, there are affiliate programs out there that are designed to have you make your own affiliate program! This is a good idea, but not when you have 98% of them producing worthless or repeat products that someone else has already created in another format or color.
With that being said I think you will find many tidbits throughout this book that will help you in whatever endeavor made you pick this book up and want to read it.

Let me draw the picture for you. I am currently in my twenties. I started thinking about how I could become successful when I was about 16 years old and I tried to get into the Internet moneymaking scene when I was 17 years old. After seven years of trying half the home-based businesses out there, among other things, I have found that I have this innate ability to see what I am doing from outside the situation and then change my attitude toward it thereby changing my outcome.

I went back and forth with the ideas that I wanted to share in this book mainly because I was not at ease with the industry. I was not happy with how many people were really interested in making money from home and working for themselves and not achieving it and giving up. Thinking that I was not helping people because of how few people were actually excelling, I realized that this was not my fault nor was it the fault of the company that I represent.

I had to put it into another context for myself so I applied it to another industry that I am very fond of… The cycling industry! I have been involved in the cycling industry for years now and I have sold many bikes to young and old people, men and women. All of these different people bought bicycles from me and I educated all of them about what they were buying and how they could benefit from this feature and that feature. They took the bike for a test ride, they asked me questions and they more often than not left with a smile. Whether they spent $8,000 or $275, they were all buying something that they wanted to buy, which is why they came to the store.

So what happens when they stop using their bike? Is that my fault? No, it is not. What happens if their bike stops working right and they don’t know how to fix it, BUT they have not brought their bike in for a tune-up like I suggested? Is that my fault? No it is not!

Pretend for a moment with me that the person that finds my website wants to get involved in a home business. They have decided that I am the leader they want to join and they are ready to put in some time. They like the travel industry, the commissions of the business building side, the perks on all-inclusive resort deals they get as a member and the idea of being able to work from their home on their own schedule. So they call me and have a few questions and then get started.

I let them know what they need to do to become successful and give them some ideas of action steps that they should take to start their voyage of entrepreneurship with their new endeavor and they are excited to start knocking them out of the park. Action step #1 goes well and they blow through action step #2 without blinking… Action step #3 is a bit rigorous and action step #4 is harder than they planned. At this point they start doubting everything because it doesn’t seem that easy anymore. They start doubting the company, the reality of their situation, if they will ever be able to make it full time in the business and if they will ever make the money the “top earners” are making.

They start talking to people and looking on “scam” websites to see if they have made a wrong decision. They ask their friends what they think they should do without regard to thinking whether or not their friends are even reliable sources for information on the subject.

What happens next? They stop working their business. They didn’t realize that just because it was online and at home, it is still a business that needs to be run with great focus and determination with proper goals set in place. They quit because they were frustrated. At this point it has usually only been around a month or two. What is the normal startup time period to know whether or not a new business is going to be successful… three to five years?

It is possible through the Internet to do it much faster, but the “get rich quick” virus kills peoples’ dreams way before they are even close to attaining them. And people don’t really grasp the idea that they are not working for anyone but themselves! They are not used to making the calls and planning out what it is that they need to do to stay busy so that their business succeeds. This is the main reason that people fail in the industry and I was taking it personal because I was helping them get started. Personally I am great and getting new prospects and signing people up, but what I was doing to be successful in that way was more than what most people were willing to do. I was putting in a full time effort and much more.

I Am A Dreamer

I was told when I was very young that there were jobs where people were paid a lot of money just to think! I was so excited about this because to a little kid like me, it made me visualize this person who was being paid by a company and would spend the whole day gazing out into the world coming up with brilliant ideas, or concocting new ways for the company, people, organizations, countries, schools or corporations to do things. When I was little, this idea did not bring with it any ideas of stress or deadlines or bosses yelling over your shoulder. It was this wonderful career where you would just and think.

You would think all day long about whatever came to your mind that could better your company. There are many jobs that encompass this idea, but nothing that I have ever heard of where someone is paid just to think about things that come to their mind without being hassled.

One event that led me to take the course in life that I have would be the amazing experience my mother gave me through being home-schooled until sixth grade. I was able to learn in a setting that was amazing for indulging creative thinking. I spent more time outside than most children had the chance to. I also learned what interested me the most and had no peer pressure during this time in my life to do things that I would not otherwise do.

This created this constant thought that I had, when I started attending the public school system, that this ridiculous assembly line of youth shuffling or sheep herding of children was not even close to being a good way to teach people. I am very passionate about learning hands on instead of sitting at a desk and reading. I was never one to want to read something and then at the correct hour, regurgitate the information that I read so as to pass a class.

I believe that life is the test and it is up to us to gain the knowledge that we need to pass the test of life with a great GPA. Learning is a constant endeavor. I have learned more through business experiences than I ever have in any class that I have taken.

Another event so to speak would be that fact that I grew up in one of the most wonderful places in the world. I grew up in a town that is right on Lake Michigan. And a place that had all four seasons and wonderful settings for anyone to explore.

I prescribe to life being an adventure every step of the way. I am not able to settle for what some people say is the “rat race”. Because of the way that I have learned throughout my life I think way out of the box… Almost so far out of the box that I can’t even see the box. If not for the thrill of a new adventure in the near tomorrow what do we have to look forward to? If life is to be lived in a stagnant state, what is the point of having so many options to choose from in life?
I wrote this book mainly for all the people that are thinking about jumping into some sort of business, networking business, online business, an affiliate program, or pure curiosity about this subject.

This book has in it what I have learned and experienced in this field. If your goal is to make more money then make sure you are doing it smart instead of trying to get rich quick. If you felt like I was talking directly to you in that last sentence, you are probably getting involved or about to get involved in something that you know isn’t something you should be spending time doing. Time, in business, is one of the biggest money wasters. If companies came up with seamless techniques for running every aspect of their business, the level of increase in revenue for those companies would be enormous.

So scale it down to your personal life. If you dump 10 or so hours into some get rich quick thing or some close cousin to it, think about how much money you are wasting. Maybe it isn’t money, maybe it is time that could be spent with your family, or learning something useful in your current occupation that would make you more valuable to your current employer.

Whatever it is for you, I highly encourage you to really know what it is that is making you want to make a change in your life. I would recommend writing out what it is that you want and why. When you have done that, hold to it and gauge whether or not your decisions are enforcing ultimate goal.

Starting a business demands a lot of attention and hours.
The commitment needs to be at the highest level for success.

If you don’t know how to do something then you need to know how to outsource it or figure out how to do it… Then you need to make it happen as soon as possible. Pretending that just because you work from home you don’t need to give your business the attention it demands, you will not get far from where you currently are. If you want residual income for years and years to come, put in serious effort to make that happen.

It seems that people are more likely to remember a good point when they hear it in some sort of a story. Some of the stories that I tell about my experience may not be to terribly interesting all people, but the underlying point in the story may be transferred to that persons understanding and that is the goal here.

And that is Chapter 1
